Speaking at a news conference, Concord Police Maj. Patrick Tierney stated that the incident occurred on Friday at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Union Street close to Corbin Avenue, just a short distance from the event’s center.
Nasir Ahmad Bostic, 18, was one of the shooters, according to police, who indicated that the incident occurred between two suspects who were acquainted.
According to authorities, Bostic, who was shot during the altercation, was rushed to the hospital and is categorized as critically ill. According to the authorities, he will be served with an arrest warrant after being released from the hospital and is charged with several offenses, including assault with a deadly weapon.
Police only identified the second alleged shooter as a juvenile; he was also shot and is presently in serious condition at the hospital. The suspect will also be charged with several offenses, including assault with a deadly weapon, according to the police.
A third suspect, a 17-year-old, is charged with instigating a riot and accessory after the fact. According to the police, they were unharmed in the shooting.
At the ceremony, emergency personnel from Concord Police, Concord Fire, and Cabarrus County EMS were there and responded right away.
Three of the four individuals who were rushed to the hospital with gunshot wounds were reported as being in serious condition, while the other was in stable condition.
Officers are interviewing witnesses and watching footage from the incident, according to the authorities.
The annual Christmas parade will take place on Saturday afternoon as planned, according to the city.
“We are a resilient community and will not let the senseless actions of a few individuals steal another tradition from us,” Mayor Bill Dusch said in a statement Saturday. “We acknowledge and appreciate the decision of some families to remain at home. Additionally, our procession has given our city solace, harmony, and healing for almost a century.
Additional security measures will be implemented during the event, according to Dusch.
About 25 miles northeast of Charlotte’s center is the city of Concord, which has a population of roughly 105,000.
