The White House starts a two year “Tech Force” hiring program. The public sector is a fresh avenue for young tech talent looking to get employment in the commercial sector.
The United States Tech Force, a two-year initiative that provides trainees federal government positions and eventually recruitment prospects for private sector roles, was unveiled on Monday by the administration of President Donald Trump.

At least 28 tech companies, including Apple, Amazon Web Services, Anduril, Dell, Box, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, OpenAI, Palantir, Oracle, Uber, and xAI, are collaborating with the government on the initiative.
In collaboration with other organizations, the Office of Personnel Management is leading the early-career initiative. According to the Tech Force website, participants will be assigned to different government organizations to work on modernization projects and, in part, implement AI.
According to the website, Tech Force is seeking candidates who are “highly skilled in the areas of software engineering, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analytics, or technical project management.” The company intends to hire about 1,000 candidates initially.
An application, a technical evaluation, interviews with agency executives, and a background check will all be required of applicants. OPM Director Scott Kupor stated in a call prior to the announcement that OPM will do the preliminary technical evaluation and resume review before delegating hiring choices to specific agencies.
According to the website, private sector partners have promised to evaluate Tech Force participants for employment after the two years and can offer training materials and mentorship possibilities. Additionally, there will be a speaker series with business CEOs, according to Kupor on Monday’s call. He further mentioned that the program will conclude with employment fairs in both the public and private sectors.
During the call, Kupor stated that companies have not made any firm hiring pledges.
“It wouldn’t be appropriate for us to ask companies to hire people without knowing who those people are,” Kupor stated. He continued by saying that he would “be certainly disappointed” if the private-sector partners did not hire him as a result of the program.

According to Kupor, salaries will probably fall between $130,000 and $195,000. The jobs, which will be advertised on USA Jobs, don’t require any particular education or experience. Interested parties are urged “to apply as soon as possible” on the website. According to Kupor, he wants to hire everyone by the end of March.
The majority of the positions are located in Washington, DC, and the website states that remote work alternatives will vary depending on the role and agency. They are completely different from the US DOGE Service and are nonpartisan posts.
The government is looking for “experienced engineering managers from private sector partners,” according to the website, even though the Tech Force is largely an early-career initiative. According to the website, companies can nominate workers for the two-year post, who will often be forced to take unpaid leave or otherwise step away from their role.
For the duration of their stay, they will work for the government full-time and be bound by all ethical regulations, according to Kupor. Each organization will have its own strategy, he continued, but he anticipates that it will be “easy” for participants to return to their jobs in the private sector.
During the call, Kupor stated that he aims to grow the program in the future and that the government intends to run it annually.
